Letter to Shay Shumaker
Congratulations Shay on your completion of the Lake Champlain Bicycle Tour. Although I saw you only briefly during the Montreal portion of the trip, your joyful spirit in spite of the rain certainly made a favorable impression upon all of the members of the Montreal Bicycle Club. Indeed you you truly define "Joie de Velo".
When I heard of the trophy to be awarded you in recognition of this spirit, I realized that although our club had many trophies and medals produced in the distant past, none had been proposed since the recent re-founding of the club. Below are some examples of the club's historical trophies.

Medal case of belonging to the original A.T. Lane
1885 Notman Photograph of W.G. Ross, trophy and medals
Gnaedinger Cup, presented in 1888 to the Montreal Bicycle Club
The club takes great pleasure that Shay Shumaker is the first to receive a trophy associated with the re-founded Montreal Bicycle Club. It is my hope that his Joie de Velo continues to inspire a very old tradition within our club.

Montreal Bicycle Club
Even with the help of David Irvine and and a few other Fogbee stalwarts we cannot match the history or trophy case of the Montreal Bicycle Club. Maybe we'll create an award for the rider who provides the best draft while consuming some minimal amount of draft. Below is a link to the final collage we will be presenting to Shay along with the trophy.
