14th August Îles-de-Boucherville
On Saturday, A.T. Lane, W.G. Ross, Doreen Thomas & Johanna set out for les Îles-de-Boucherville via the Olympic Stadium, east Montreal, and the ferry at Bellerive Park. We did the full tour of the main islands, spotting one deer and the signs of beavers and lots of folks enjoying this lovely park, and then returned via another ferry and the south shore.
Setting out through Montreal, always something new even on familiar corners.
Famous from classic Quebec film, but we need to check with Dorothy for the name of the film...
Reminders of our era of Olympic glory...
A bit further along, a neighbourhood with several blocks of houses with maybe two rooms upstairs and two downstairs - post war housing? We are in a totally unfamiliar area of Montreal, but only 15 km from where we started...
Ferry is popular but our timing was good.
Luxury cruise! Giving also a good view of the port and how all our goods are shipped.
Frisbee golf has come to Montreal! Though only ranked the 3rd best destination for it in Quebec, and 33rd in Canada... but this is a lovely place to try it out!
Is this the work of beavers? We were not sure at first (what would they do with such big trees), but we found tooth marks and a quick search on google provides the information that beavers cut down big trees to access the upper branches for both food and building materials, and they also chew on the bark of the fallen log when they can get to it.
Spotted: another trishaw design!
Good park for cycling, boating, deer-spotting!
Quiet lunch spots
More lovely vistas. The goldenrod was spectacular, though giving more than a hint that the height of summer has passed...
Another ferry to bring us to Boucherville.
Framed!
Église Sainte-Famille, Boucherville.
The South Shore bike path has some nice views, offsetting the noise of the highway on the other side...
And once more over the Champlain Bridge, and then the final stretch home.
Total distance: 77 km. (Not enough to budge my Eddington number, but a great day all round!)
Johanna
