Oh, oh, Oka?

GT, AT and Louis met on the 9h55 Vaudreuil train to ...Vaudreuil with talk mostly about the Canadiens second straight loss and Louis' re-considering his vote in the election. A T suggested the fixture today should be the one to Oka but ending up at Rosemere station instead of the planned Beaconsfield station.

A T Lane was very keen to show off his newest acquistion, a gravel version of the Brompton folding bike.

Finally, arriving at Vaudreuil station, the members disembarked from the train and headed to the shiny new station to use its facilities before heading to the Oka ferry.

A T suggested a slight detour to view the ice remaining on Lac des Deux Montagnes but it was just a reflection of the water. However, it did give the members a chance to view an interesting bird that A T subsequently identified as a Turkey Vulture.

On the way to the ferry, the members decided to grab a quick coffee at the popular Norah cafe. Back on the road, Louis led the way along his home road and the members were on their way again. However, a surprise awaited them when they arrived at the ferry dock to find no ferry and no dock! Oops! My bad, admits GT, who had assumed that the ferry would be in operation since the ice was long gone.

Pondering what to do, Louis suggested a visit to his daughter's place just down the road. Unfortunately, no one was home but that did not stop grandpa Louis from breaking and entering to show off the very well kitted out stained glass studio in the back yard.

Hoping to get away before the neighbours called the police, it was decided to curtail the fixture ride and return towards Vaudreuil/Dorion to catch the 2pm train back to town. On the way back, GT and AT grabbed a sandwich for the train while Louis watched their bikes and munched an apple.

Finally, it was decided to get on the train at Vaudreuil with Louis grumbling about buying a ticket after GT showed him how to do so at the machine when what he really wanted to do was chance it and ride for free and experience the thrill of possibly getting caught by a ticket inspector so he could talk his way out of it. Sorry, Louis.

In the end, the 55K ride turned out to be only 25K but no one was too worried about it and the members bid each other farewell as they reached their stop.
