Erie Canal
The Erie Canal ride was organized by the Fogbees (Fat Old Guys - Fine Ole Gals on Bikes) who asked if any MBC members would be interested in coming along. As it turned out only A.T. Lane and Mark Greene managed to join in.
A.T. drove from Montreal to Albany then took his bike on an Amtrak train to Buffalo. He spent a day touring about that city before meeting up with Mark. The two to them rode to along the Erie Canal to Albany where A.T. returned to Montreal and Mark continued on to New York City along the Hudson River bike path.
24 September A.T.'s Visit to Buffalo
After arriving the previous evening on the Amtrak Empire on the Amtrak, A.T. treated himself to the Mansion on Delaware. The Butlers helped carry his bike up the front stairs and his first floor room was a piece of cake once inside.
He spent the day riding about site seeing. Notable attractions included
Delaware Park, checking off another Olmsted design....

Buffalo built a new waterfront park, Canalside, it contains a museum of the Erie Canal. The original 1825 canal was located under present day elevated highway and the present canal connects not to Lake Erie but the Niagara River. The Museum and archeological digs display the historic connection to the lake.
