Valleyfield 2020

The Intrepid Six : G.T. Bishop, Dorothy Cole, Karolina Kocięcka, Karl Kron, and Louis Rubenstein met on the EXO train to Dorion at 9:30 – a late start due to the week-end train schedule.

Arriving in Dorion at 10:40 we made our way out of the station.

We paused briefly to admire some urban art in a tunnel.

And some dock ornaments on the way to Pointe-des-Cascades

The Soulange Canal was in full summer mode with walkers, kayakers and fishers enjoying the day.

We chose to take the ferry from Les Cèdres to St.Timothée.

Riding through Valleyfield we passed the Marina (No regatta this year due to COVID-19).

Shade at last in the Parc Régional de Beauharnois-Salaberry

The planned ride took us to Île-St.-Bernard and the 16:15 ferry to Lachine. Time was short in order to be at the ferry on time. A dip in Lac St.Louis would have been divine. We envied the young lads jumping into the water from the bridge. The beach at Léry looked like St.Tropez!
The ferry was full. Advance reservations would certainly have been useful. A.T. Bishop had one. Two passengers did not show up so Louis and Karl were able to board.
A.T., Karolina and Dorothy opted to ride home. Arriving in Kahnawake they were told by an angry man on a bicycle that we should not be in town because of the pandemic. Plan B kicked in. Karolina’s husband had offered to come and get us and we accepted the offer. While we were planning our meeting point a “gentle” local peacekeeper suddenly appeared with a “get out of jail” free card. He suggested the best place to wait was the police station.

A comforting end to another MBC adventure.
