3 November 2022 Quebec City or Bust

A.T. and Birdie did a day trip by Via Rail to Quebec City. A.T. took his folding bike that can be easily carried on to the train.  Birdie, informed by Via that there was no baggage car for bike service on these trains  hoped to be able to rent a bike upon arrival in that city.

Upon arrival in the city however we found that there is in fact a baggage car on the 6:25 form Montreal to Quebec City!  When we asked the attendant at the front desk about this he informed us that some of the trains have re-instated baggage cars that had been stopped during the pandemic.  However the car in question no longer had a bicycle rack so we could not have transported a regular bicycle in any case.

Not yet deterred, Birdie admired the portability of A.T. 's bike and ease at which it unfolds.

Together they set out to look at the potential rental sites.....

Walking into the nearby Lower Town we admired some wall murals.

The streets and stair cases.....

Soon it was time for lunch...

After a bit of sightseeing, we were inspired to take a short river cruise....

A.T. searched out an executive washroom at the Chateau Frontenac, discovering some interesting sights along the way.

Soon we had booked our cruise to Levis....

On the return trip we were greeted by a group of singers... and the return of a Coast Guard ship.

On the way back to the train, we discovered signs from Quebec city's sister, Bordeaux.

Unfortunately, Quebec City no longer has streetcars.   A.T. found when he visited her sister city that she has a very nice streetcar network.    Soon maybe both sisters will each have one....

Back at the train Station Birdie was filmed doing a complete Quebec City bicycle tour...

Not to be outdone, A.T. gave Quebec City a farewell demonstration of how to fold up his bike....

P.S. we took a look for a baggage car on the 5:45 train from Quebec City to Montreal, there is none.

Back in Montreal

P.S.S.

In Quebec City we spotted what appeared to be a motorcycle.  The license plate identified it as a speed limited electric vehicle, an ebike in other words.  It qualifies as an ebike because it has a maximum 500 W motor and 32 km/hr top speed.  Should there be other criteria?
