30 June 2023 Critical Mass Ride
On a very smoggy day, the result of climate change making forest fires more severe, about 200 people met at Jeanne Mance Park in Montreal tried to do something about it.
It was the monthly Critical Mass Ride, which occurs the last Friday of each month. The last few rides started out by heading North on Parc, this time we wanted them to head South towards the downtown and Sherbooke Street. The hope being that one day Sherbrooke will become the city's principal East-West bicycle artery. We blocked off the median on Parc hoping to persuade the mass to turn South rather than North.
Success!!!!
It makes quite a splash to see a large group of cyclists taking over a street.
I spotted Jackie, a former director at Dramatis Personae in the crowd and offered her a short ride in the Sociable.
The mass passed through Old Montreal.
Accompanied by music.
I picked up a passenger along the way...
Then along Sherbrooke Street headed West.
Sometimes the settings dial changed on my camera...
The mass continued until Westmount Park, unfortunately the battery on my camera gave out after Atwater.
H.S. Tibbs did have some photos from that section however...
Indeed, one of our fellow riders, Zvi Leve, has a photo collection of many Critical Mass events.
