New Year's Day 2020 on the Falaise St Jacques

To welcome in the New Year of 2020 the Montreal Bicycle Club showed up in force to the 3rd annual New Year's Day on the Falaise St Jacques.   In fact they shored up the rather weak numbers of Sauvons la Falaise members who were able to attend.   We were nine in all.

W.G. Ross In the Snowy Bower

Each of these annual outings has been in milder weather.   The first was an arctic day with strong northerly winds but sunny.   The second was just below zero with little snow.  For this New Year's Day the branches all held lacy snow that was slowly melting.   In fact occasional drops of snow melt fell as we snowshoed/walked westwards along the east-west trail.

We did make one side trip up onto the Bande Verte.

H.S. Tibbs Giving An Impromptu Description Of The Future Parklands

From there Tibbs gave a very brief description of how all the various natural spaces will fit together in the near future, that is the Falaise St Jacques, la Bande Verte, la Dalle Parc, le Parc Turcot, the Lachine Canal.  He even ventured to project a vision whereby the Dalle Parc springing from the top of the Falaise St Jacques would land on the hill rise of Irwin Street.  This would allow for a linear park connection to Parc Agrignon.   From there one could foresee a greenway bridging to the south side of the aqueduct and along the western edge of the extensive Douglas Hospital grounds to the wonderful riverside parks in Verdun, Lasalle, and Lachine.
