3 April 2021 New ways of approaching the Lachine Canal Bike path.

Five members of the Montreal Bicycle Club gathered at the Shakia Cafe and talked about cycling to Lachine along the Lachine Canal path but approaching the canal in a new way.  We would look at the eastern approach of the Bande Verte and the associated new MTQ purple path along Rue Notre Dame.

Preparations at the Shakia Cafe.

Rather than heading west immediately, we went down Decarie Blvd and on to the new path on St Jacques. (Shown in red on the MTQ map)

The Eastern portion of the MTQ red path along Pullman has been built, but has not yet been opened.

The MTQ Eastern red path is below the MUHC hospital and crosses the Highway 15 south of the junction of Highways 15 & 20.

At the eastern edge of the Falaise the MTQ has cut down more trees to dig the new drainage ditch between the Falaise and the Bande Verte.

The future Bande Verte (the orange bike path on the MTQ map).

Unable to go further west, the group turned back and went to the Lachine Canal using the traditional approach route along Courcelle.

The ice has now all melted in the canal.

Sights along the canal...

We took a second detour, to look at the construction progress of the MTQ purple path / Western red path junction point.

The picnic area, on the bike path near the where Dollard Ave crosses the Lachine Canal seemed a good place to stop for lunch.

Heading back I had to take a few bird pictures.

Waving good-bye......
