A Sugar Bush on the Falaise

A good number of cyclists came out to the Falaise St. Jacques to plant sugar maples donated by Soverdi this morning.   This is an initiative spearheaded by Louise Chenevert.   Thanks Louise.   Meeting the Soverdi truck at 9AM the cyclists moved the four foot tall trees down the Bird Valley to where it meets the Falaise path.   Tools and water were also moved down the valley.   The wheelbarrow again showed its usefulness.  The plantings for the most part are on the eastern slope of the Bird Valley.   Louise gave a full introduction into how to plant trees, especially making note of what mistakes to avoid.   The digging of the holes was not always easy since there was a lot of  rubble and stone hidden in the soil.   But a fine sense of accomplishment was had by all in finally positioning the trees.   There was talk of maple syrup in the future.

Completing the Sugar Bush: 2nd Morning

With the threat of torrential rains this evening there was a concerted push by Falaisians to plant the last 10 sugar maples from Sovardi.   They were topped off by topsoil and mulch.   Great to have the Sugar Bush planted.
