A.T. Lane, freshly back from his trip to Vienna and Budapest, went back to his old habit of having coffee with club members at the Shakia Cafe before the Fixture ride.  His thoughts were clearly still on his recent trip however.

The familiar sights of cycling in Montreal only seemed to make him think of comparisons between the his home on the St Lawrence and those cities on the Danube.

In Old Montreal, it didn't seem all that different.  By the Danube however the streets that do not have bike paths at least have some warnings that bikes may be  present as well as cars.

The subject matter of the statues along the two rivers is quite different.

Both rivers have Ferris Wheels nearby, the Prater park wheel in Vienna has a historic Montreal Bicycle Club connection btw.

In Montreal, streetcars are kept only in a Museum, to show children what the streets used  to look like.  By the Danube, they keep the streetcars on the street so people can see what the buildings look like.

Both rivers have bike paths alongside as well as places to eat.

Both have many places to rent bikes.

But only the St Lawrence offers surfing.
