20 June Louis Rubenstein Memorial Water Fountain
Our party of four set off from the Shaka Cafe, water bottles on the
ready, and headed for our first destination , the new University of
Montreal campus.
It is impressive, spacious and sadly empty as a result
of the pandemic. The area, semi landscaped with serious condo
construction underway, is worth seeing at its early development stage,
because in five years you won’t recognize it.
Exiting the campus via Van
Horne we rode to the Angus yards , checking out a portion of the two
way bike path on Christophe Colomb.
There we passed through a shell of
an old railway structure, two brick walls seemingly held up by an SAQ
outlet. Quebec Sait Faire! After a cafe break,
we rode along Rachel to
Av Mont Royal, recently closed to traffic for the summer and another
benefit of our current situation.
We then paused at the Louis Rubenstein
Memorial Water Fountain at the old Fletcher’s Field on Parc Av.
By the Water Fountain we also spoke to a few Inuit about the art work on the Canadian Ten Dollar bill.
before
riding over the mountain to Westmount, NDG and Montreal West for a most
welcome cool down.
