News of the Sherbrooke Street Bike path has spread to Minnesota
Hello Malcolm,
Wonderful news to hear you have gained additional bicycling
facilities--particularly on Sherbrooke Street! One of the few positive
effects of the virus is cities all over the world are dedicating more
space to bicycling/walking--and less to cars--many temporary;
some permanent. My city, Minneapolis, has created many new temporary
routes. It's been very interesting to watch how quickly some appeared
(despite months of community requests under healthier times). I've
written a number of letters to elected officials
with reasons we should keep (fingers crossed) many of the gains. The
virus created the opportunity for one huge "pilot project"; I'm hopeful
this unexpected precedent will inspire city planners/officials to
continue to rethink roadway allocation.
Enjoy your new bicycle facilities!
Wishing you and your club members a healthy, safe, and enjoyable summer,
Liz
P.S. our library recently reopened for outside pickup only. We can
request/check out books, but no returns yet. The libraries will be
overwhelmed when they finally accept returns.
