Flavours of Montreal - Portuguese Cuisine

Could not have asked for a nicer day - joined by: A.T. Lane, Daisy Bell, Kirkpatrick Macmillan, H.S. Tibbs, Dorothy Cole, Laura Snowball, Amelia Bloomer.  The weather, the company, the food were great!  By meeting at Allo Velo, we learn how noisy the area is and how much construction can disrupt our routes.

Stop #1- Le parc du Portugal. Did you know that pigeons do not poop while flying - unlike seagulls? Did you know that squirrels will lose some of their tails as well as vertebra in order to flee a predator? Did you know that there was a great number of Portuguese who came to Canada in 1953 - mostly from Azores - hence the name on the Home Hardware sign on the corner?  Lastly, did you know that a famous Portuguese singer named Amalia Rodrigues visited and performed in Canada in 1973? All this and more that you can learn from read in the plaques found in the park.

On our way to the park, A.T. Lane pointed out a house where Leonard Cohen used to live.

Stop #2- Cafe Chez Jose. Daisy Bell and Kirkpatrick Macmillan shared a "pate vege maison" and enjoyed it immensely. Daisy Bell could not get enough of the bread.

Stop #3- Ma Poule Mouille. Because of the long line up - which is a really good sign of the goodness of the food - we gave this one a miss and rolled on to the next location.

Stop #4- Bela Vista. Some of us delighted in Natas - a great dessert.  Dorothy Cole gives this spot a rating of 10.5 out of 10 - for the coffee, the dessert, and the service!! One of the staff brought out an extra bench for us to sit on. H.S. Tibbs was over the moon with his espresso.

After being well fed and satisfied we made our way back home to have a nap - well, most of us.
