May 6, 2021 Flavours of Montreal: Part 1 Jewish Cuisine
How fortunate for us to have such a beautiful sunny day for our fixture. Karl Krohn, Louis Rubinstein, Dorothy Cole, Kirkpatrick Macmillan and Daisy Bell met at Allo Velo, then made our way to Hof Kelsten (with one or two detours) on St. Laurent Boulevard. This spot was chosen for our dessert items.
Next, we pedaled our way to The Main. We had our appetizers here. Matzo ball soup and potato latkes were the foods of choice.
Thirdly, we cycled through the calming Clark canopy up to Wilensky's for the famous balogna sandwiches. Remember to bring cash or your debit card unlike Daisy Bell and Kirkpatrick Macmillan, who were treated to kindness by a stranger.
On the way back home, we made a stop at the Mordecai Richler Library. A woman working there told us how the citizens of the neighbourhood were responsible for having the church transformed into a library 27 years ago. The stained glass windows are original. Absolutely stunning!! She told us that there is another similar to this library in Quebec City. Outside the library, a woman related to us an anecdote of her canoe trip along the Yukon River where they stopped at a mission school. Here there was posted a newspaper article about the construction of this church in Montreal. Small world! She proceeded to pick garbage in the gardens of the library. It's very nice to see individuals doing their part - no matter how small - it all adds up.
