"Pellete-In" Lachine Canal Path

Pedestrians and cyclists gathered on Wednesday the 11th of March to symbolically shovel the Canal Lachine bike path.  The purpose of this event was to denounce Parks Canada's refusal to clear snow from the track, which is an important cycling link to connect the Southwest, Verdun, LaSalle and Lachine boroughs to downtown Montreal.

"In the current context of the fight against climate change and with winter cycling gaining popularity, we invite you to join us in making active transport on this track accessible year-round," was the invitation from the Association for Active Mobility of the Canal-de-Lachine.

It was pointed out that of three cycling paths under the federal Canadian government's jurisdiction (the new Champlain bridge and the Jacques Cartier bridge being the other two) only the canal path has no winter cycling.    A representative of the Southwest borough stated that their Public Works department was set to clear the cycling path.   All that was needed was a green light from the federal agency.

Part of the Crew Just Before Breaking for the Barbecue

Afterwards a most agreeable barbecue was organized outdoors.   With the current Covid 19 crisis urban cycling is the most secure and most sustainable transport option.   This can not be overstated.
