29 February 2020 Mont Royal Skiing

The weather forecast said it would be minus 17 in the morning, rising to minus ten, and that it would be cloudy.

However when Daisy Greville got the 90 bus at 0900 the sun was breaking through and the entire morning stayed sunny.

The trail from the Beaver Lake Chalet toward  Maison Smith was impeccably prepared and Daisy was the first one to ski on it (There were  a few skating-technique skiers on their own trail).

There was a sharp wind blowing at the door of Maison Smith and Daisy was glad to get into the warm house. There were a lot of people chatting in the dining room and drinking water. It was only when A.T.Lane arrived about 15 minutes later that Daisy realized that the door to the coffee counter was closed. No staff had shown up. So, no  coffee, but A.T. did  record the fixture with a photo. Also had a very pleasant chat with Reford MacDougal and Rae, his skiing companion. Reford is a  a true friend of the Mountain who goes there every day.

Daisy and A.T. set off up trail #3. The glide was perfect as was the condition of all the hills. The recent snowfall had added to the beauty of the trees - leaving bowers of snow-covered branches.

Having completed the top trails they opted to ski along Chemin Olmstead all the way to Park Avenue There were many skiers, walkers and runners- and a cyclist on the Chemin. They skied to where the trail ended on Parc Avenue near the Monument to George- Étienne Cartier where they picked up the 80 bus on its regular run. A.T. changed for the 24 bus to take him home along Sherbrooke St. and Daisy got the métro at Place des Arts for Atwater and the 90 bus.
