Nuit Blanche Plans
The following is an approximate itinerary
for La Nuit Blanche 2020.. It will probably change depending on other
ideas and line-ups. Some activities will be dropped because of a lack
of time, or change in interests. From past
experiences some venues for some reason will have line-ups, others
absolutely none. If the line-up is long, we will drop that event. On
average we will be at an event about a half an hour. I encourage you
to visit the site La Nuit Blanche and take note
of any interesting event that might be missed. There are things
happening in other parts of the city but we will concentrate on Centre
Ville this year. Next year it might be le Vieux Port/ Vieux Montréal.
The best way to navigate is by way of the map.
I have used the same numbers it has to events and their fly-out
descriptions:
We will meet at 8 PM at the coffee shop at
the south east corner of de Maisonneuve and Guy. I think it is a Java
U. If it is closed then across the street there is a Tim Horton's and
we will meet there. If you cycle, we will
find a good place to secure the bike. I think we will have a
'breakfast break' around midnight near St Laurent and Ste Catherine.
One can head home at any time, or stay as late as one wants. The STM
has special services but I have never used them in
past years. So I leave you to investigate options. The Redpath
Museum has a very interesting evening outlined but I have not included
it in the list of events because it would take up a good part of the
evening. We can change that to an included event
if I hear from others that they are interested.
Here are my suggestions. They are in a probable walking order from one to the next:
37- Concordia University - Sir George Williams Campus - 4th Space Gallery
1400 Maisonneuve Blvd W, Montreal, QC H3G 1M8
From the Big Land
Activating the night with hypnotic and mesmerizing
sound, colour and kaleidoscopic imagery, Newfoundland-born,
Montreal-based filmmaker, animator and visual artist of mixed Inuit
ancestry from Nunatsiavut (Hopedale, Labrador) Glenn Gear,
in partnership with the Inuit Futures in Arts Leadership: The
Pilimmaksarniq/Pijariuqsarniq Project and 4th SPACE of Concordia
University, present From the Big Land, a video and audio installation.
From the Big Land delves into the relationships between people,
animals and land, rethinking the spaces in which history, hope, and
Indigenous knowledge may thrive. Based on the artist’s photographs of
Labrador flora such as black spruce twigs and blooms of Labrador tea, in
addition to photos of sealskin and beadwork,
From the Big Land explores alternative forms of storytelling through
intersections of archival media (photos and recordings), animation,
traditional crafts, photography, and drawings. Presented on 4th SPACE’s
large screen with sound projected onto the street,
From the Big Land will animate and spark the visual and auditory
interests of passersby with rhythms of throat singing intertwined with
the undulating kaleidoscopic forms, creating waves of recognizable
imagery, which then transform into purely aesthetic forms.
38- Cultural Institute of Mexico Montreal
2055 Peel St.
The converted dance of our ancestors
A multimedia choreographic performance about the
pre-Columbian world and duality in Mexico, alluding to the green nature
of the civilizations that existed quite naturally in the rich culture of
this great country, even before the arrival
of Europeans.
An immersive intervention of space through mapping
and scenography that interacts with projections that will transport us
to another dimension through light, images, music, and dance inspired by
the ancestral dances of Mexico.
The project will be realized by volumetric
recordings of the choreographic artistic performance in real time
throughout the evening. This capture will allow us to have the 3D
material or volumetric capture of the dancers, which at the same
time will be projected to give us an immersive experience, as well as
by an interactive section with the movements of the public present. This
will allow them to be part of the immersive interactive experience, all
accompanied by electronic music with the
intervention of pre-Hispanic instruments from Mexico.

year, come see how Theatre Sainte-Catherine gets
inspired by this year’s Nuit blanche theme in improv! Not only will we
change improvisers, themes and styles every hour on the hour, we will
also change languages (oh, yes!) throughout the entire evening to
