January 7th 2020 Skiing on Mont Royal
The morning of Monday January 07 2019 was cloud-free and minus three.
About 2 centimeters of fluffy snow which had fallen during the night
made everything look alright.
Daisy Greville took the 90 bus from her abode, changed to the metro at
Atwater and picked up the 165 at Guy. Entered Mount Royal where there
are the new steps at the corner of Cedar and Cote-Des Neiges. A brief
climb got her to the ski trail leading to Maison
Smith. The trail was tracked and the glide was fast. Daisy was very
pleased with herself and with the STM to see that it was 0945 when she
arrived at the Maison.
A.T. Lane and W.G Ross arrived after a while. They used human energy all the way from home. They had also opted not to bring skis, thinking the snow coverage would not be adequate
Over coffee they talked of many things- the history of the bicycle,
books on bikes, the hat and silver medallion worn my members of of the
old Montreal Bicycle Club.
The photo was taken and Daisy said adieu and skied off up in the
direction of the Chalet.. A.T. Lane was going to walk over to Park
Avenue and Louis-Louis planned to walk back down to the city by the same
route he took to get up to the Mountain.
A little later, skiing along on the trail beside Chemin Olmstead, Daisy
glided past A T Lane on his mission to Park Avenue. Shortly after that
she turned of on the appropriately-named Serpentin which was safely
skiable, and got her to the corner of Pine and
Peel-- and behold- a 144 came along in five minutes.
Happy to report on a very satisfying fixture.
