Onto the Champlain Again

The MBC was convened at the Shaïka café, A.T. and Tibbs in attendance.   It was a late change in plans because of the weather.   Very mild temperatures made the skiing along the river not a pleasant option.   So the club opted for another run over the Champlain bridge.

After a complicated discussion about future cycling paths and politics, it was decided to at least check out the new cycling path on Guy.  This was accomplished with a bit of a detour at René Lévesque because of construction. Then we made our way through the labyrinth of new condos in Griffintown, built and in construction.   Finally we connected to Verdun by way of St Patrick street.   There the condition of the cycling paths was from good to fair, no maintenance.   The cycling path leading to and across Île des Soeurs was very well maintained.

There was a stiff breeze from the east as we cycled the Champlain bridge to its high point at the two structural pylons.   On the bridge the cycling path was cleared by a plow to the downriver side, no salt or grit added.  We noted from above that the cycle path along the Seaway was plowed and would make for a good day of winter cycling.

A.T. on the return

Cycle Path Along the Seaway

With the wind behind us and a gradual down slope the return was no effort.   We had lunch at A.T.'s favourite Greek restaurant.   The discussion became rather intellectual and naturally drifted to the Elgin Marbles in the British Museum.  The return ride under sunny skies was by way of the Atwater market, St Ambroise street, and the Glen.

P.S.

Hi Malcolm,
