19 May First Moulin Fleming Photo Shoot

The members gathered at the Moulin Fleming to plan the recreation of the 1892 Notman Composite Photograph of the club taken at that same location.

We scouted out where the camera must be placed in order to get the same background. This appears to close to what we needed.

It was felt that morning was not the best time to photograph the windmill as the lighting will be better in the afternoon.  Also because the tree leaves the background might be best in the very early spring of late fall.  It was planned to stop by the next day in the afternoon and try again.

The banner at the top center of the photo appears to be the same one used in the 1885 photo of G.T. Bishop.

We plan to photoshop this banner into the new composite.  The beaver and winged wheel on the flag is a transition between the original MBC symbol of a beaver atop a silver shield,

and the winged wheel adopted in 1886.

We plan that current individual members will each take a position and pose matching one of the original members and wear the cap, medallion, and the current bicycle jersey.

The new composite can then be built up gradually with new members added one by one.  It also does not require that the individual photos be taken at any particular location.  It will be fun to re-create each pose.

All this decided, the members went off on a bike ride along the Lachine rapids.

Then over to Nun's Island where they checked out the beaver situation that was first mentioned to the club by Arthur Harris.  His role of informing the club of interesting details seems to have a long tradition.

We then crossed over the Champlain Bridge, a first for Dorothy Cole.
