25 May Eastern Tip of the Island
Louis Rubenstein, a well respected founding member of MBC tried several
times to RSVP for the May 25 excursion around the eastern tip of the
island. Apparently the corona virus maximum of 3 had been attained and
no more participants were being accepted. Never mind he thought - "I'm
gonna go anyway"and proceeded to the secret starting point. It was a
lonely wait and he almost decided to venture out on his own when to his
wondering eyes should appear: A-T Lane.
So we headed out along de
Maisonneuve thru downtown up University, Milton, Park Ave, Jeanne-Mance
to Fairmount and Wilensky's Light Lunch - a legendary eatery at which he
had dined on many occasions since 1973 - but not this time as it was
closed due to covid.
The 2 founders continued on up Berri then Papineau
to Gouin. Here they zig-zagged east past waterfalls and rapids, RDP as
far as the Repentigny bridge at the eastern extremity of the island.
Then they headed west along Notre-Dame with stops to view les Isles de
Boucherville, ships, oil refineries etc to Viau where Louis decided to
ride the metro home rather than navigate the Alp like climb up to
Sherbrooke in the west end. Total distance cycled: 70 k.

P.S.
The two members headed west on the return leg of the journey, stopping briefly to watch some ships headed up river.
After dropping Louis off at the Viau Metro, A.T continued along Sherbrooke street where he discovered the newly built bike path!

West of the "Big Owe" the path runs along Rachel where again it has been much improved over the last few days.
